El Modelo Mexico, literally The (male) Model Mexico, is a male beauty pageant in Mexico. It was first held in 1996, after the country received an invitation to participate in the international Mister World pageant, where Mexico's Gabriel Soto placed second (first runner-up). Holding the rights of sending the country's representative to Mister World, the pageant is usually held every year the latter is also held. Recently, however, the titleholders have been chosen through a casting. El Modelo Mexico is run by Lupita Jones and the Nuestra Belleza Mexico organization.
